COURSE DESCRIPTION
MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE
Grade level: 6, 7, and 8
Prerequisite: none
Length: three years
Middle School Science is designed to engage students in scientific process and the development of science understandings by asking them to take on the role of a scientist or engineer in order to solve real-world problems. When solving the relevant problems posed to them, students will investigate scientific phenomena via a blend of hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools. In addition to investigates, students will be asked to effectively collaborate with their peers and develop their own models and/or scientific explanations.
Science topics covered in this course
- during Year A include metabolism, genetic traits, thermal energy, oceans, atmosphere, climate, and weather.
- Year B science topics will include plate motion, rock transformations, phase change, chemical reactions, populations and resources, and matter and energy in ecosystems.
- Finally, Year C science topics include force and motion, magnetic fields, light waves, natural selection, and Earth, Moon, and Sun.
